How To Pack A Carry-On Suitcase

If you know me well, then you know that I am the queen of overpacking. I’m a firm believer that you need to have options while you’re away from home. What if you change your mind and want to wear a dress instead of pants and a blouse?

When it comes to packing, I’m known for bringing at least 2 outfits to wear per day, plus extra clothes “just in case.” I bring tons of shoes and more makeup products than I’ll ever wear. I’m that girl that sits on her suitcase to get it close shut. The end result is that I come home and unpack a lot of unworn clothes and makeup that I hardly ever touched while away.

A few months ago when my husband and I were talking about packing for our vacation to Italy, I mentioned how we would each check a suitcase. He laughed hysterically at me and told me no, he wasn’t going to drag my peacock paisley suitcase across cobblestone streets while juggling my leopard neck pillow and colorful Vera Bradley tote bags. Set in panic mode for me. What?! I have to pack for a week and half in just a carry-on?

For months I have looked at TONS of pins on Pinterest and watched endless hours of Youtube videos trying to figure out how I would accomplish this task. It wasn’t until a couple of months ago that my husband admitted that he was joking about each of us just using a carry-on (I’m quite gullible so I often believe anything he tells me.) He said we could check one large suitcase as it might make the trip easier knowing we could put our dirty laundry in that bag along with anything else we buy on the trip.

While I wanted to give in and just check a bag to have extra room, I said no. Since we are traveling to a few different cities via train and staying in different hotels, lugging around another suitcase was just going to be too much. So I made it my mission to fit EVERYTHING into my one carry-on suitcase. And somehow, someway I actually accomplished it!
