Happy July! Does anyone else feel like summer just flies by whereas other seasons (cough cough winter) stick around forever?) I can’t believe it’s already 4th of July time!

Beauty Blogger Book Club

For June’s book pick, we read a selection Heather chose called The Year We Left Home by Jean Thompson. This New York Times Bestseller book follows a family that lives in rural Iowa over the course of 3 years. It begins in the 1970s with the marriage of one of the daughters. Throughout the rest of the book, the chapters alternated with different stories and voices from the other members of the family. There wasn’t really any big plot to the story but rather a look into the everyday stuff of life that each of us goes through.

I thought this book was ok. To me it wasn’t a very complex or interesting storyline and I kept waiting for something more exciting to happen to the characters. I do think that the author did a great job of demonstrating the characters and their relationships over the years and how they all grew up.

Next month we’ll be reading Lisa’s pick which is Paper Towns by John Green. I’ve always wanted to read a John Green novel because I hear they’re really good. This book is also being made into a movie.

Now go check out what our other BBBC members thought of June’s book!
