Fashion :: Black Friday Shopping Outfit

The busiest shopping day is right around the corner! Whether you head out late on Thanksgiving to shop or get up early and do a shopping spree on Friday, one of the keys to Black Friday shopping is all about comfort. Today I’m sharing with you the three essentials that a Black Friday outfit should contain.

  • Tunic and leggings

We all know how comfortable leggings are to wear. Pair them with a comfortable tunic and you’re good to go. I love how tunics can be dressed up or down. I especially love this one because of it’s classic black and white stripes and the pockets in front allow me to carry my phone or chapstick in them.

  • Crossbody bag

When I go shopping, I have no time (or patience) to deal with my Mary Poppins-ish handbag that has too much stuff in it and just ends up weighing me down. If I know I’m going to be out on a shopping spree, I always switch to a cross body bag. This way I only bring the essentials with me and my hands are free to carry all of my purchases!

  • Scarf

Since I’m from the Midwest, wearing a winter coat while shopping inside is just no ideal. Nobody wants to wear a big bulky coat that they’re going to get hot and uncomfortable in. But, obviously you still need to be covered up enough to make that sprint back to your car with your packages too! Since plaid scarves are all the rage this season, you can swap your coat for a scarf instead. It will help keep your neck warm but you can always wrap it around your arms too if you get a little chilly.

Date Night Outfit :: Crop Tops, Leather and Leopard

I love nothing more than a date night with my husband. We both have pretty stressful jobs which my husband travels a lot for his and on top of that we run a side business. Needless to say, we’re both workaholics and one of our favorite things to do, besides travel, is do fun things as just the two of us. While we don’t have kids yet and it always is just the two of us, there’s something special about getting dressed up and out for a night on the town.

I think one of the most important things in a marriage is continuing to date each other and making life fun. My husband and I have known each other 10 years, with 8 of those being a couple. For the first 2 years of our relationship, we lived in different states so when we did get to visit each other, we always planned fun things to do while the other was in town. Now that we’re married, we try to continue on with the fun in our relationship.

Ok, sappy marriage/love story/advice time is over..we’ll save that for another day :)

It’s been awhile since we had a night out and next week we have some really important date nights coming up! Tuesday is my husband’s 30th birthday and on Thursday we’re going to see the Rockettes. With such fun nights ahead of us, I needed to put together an outfit that was fun and fabulous.

Transition summer clothes into fall

A few weeks ago, Francesca’s reached out to me via Twitter and offered to send me a clothing item. I love love love shopping in Francesca’s for clothes. It’s a franchise but they have a boutique vibe about them. Many of the items they have in-store only come in a few sizes, so when you find something adorable, you have to snatch it up! It’s one of my favorite stores to shop at for dresses and jewelry because it’s affordable, in-style and it makes me feel unique because the pieces are so one-of-a-kind.

When I got my #franlove packages in the mail, I squealed with joy when I opened it up. Without knowing me or my style, they picked out a top that perfectly goes with my fashion taste and matches my personality. It’s a pink, short sleeve crop top with rhinestone embellishments on the front. My mind immediately started to think of ways to wear this piece and transition it into fall.

Here’s the look I came up with. Although this is a crop top, going into the colder months I didn’t want to bare all and show my stomach. I paired it with these black ponte pants that are my favorite pair to wear to work. They’re a skinny leg which I’m most comfortable in but they aren’t uncomfortable (or frumpy) like regular dress pants can be. A leather jacket helps to give this bright top a fall feel and I completed this outfit with leopard heels and a clutch.

Fall Fashion Essentials

Now that’s officially getting cool outside and we can break out our fall clothes, including our  favorite plaid and chambray, I thought it would be a fun idea to share some of my fall must haves in your wardrobe for this season. In my newest video, I’m sharing the items in my closet that I pull out the most and also show you how I like to style them.

A list of items that I think every girl should have in her fall wardrobe:

  • Vests
  • Tunics
  • Quilted coat
  • Chambray dress
  • Plaid scarf
  • Leopard shoes
  • Plaid shirt
  • Converse sneakers

My Fall Uniform :: Stripes and Plaid

I’m sure most of us feel the same way after we come home from work. Immediately take off your work outfit and get into your sweatpants and sweatshirt so you’re comfortable, right? Yep, that’s me each night after work. While I love dressing up and putting together fun outfits to document on instagram (make sure to follow me!), I love nothing more than putting on my yoga pants, a sweatshirt and some fuzzy socks so I can cuddle and unwind on the couch with my fur babies.

But then there are those times the husband calls me on his way home from work and suggests we go out for dinner. Count me in! While I love to cook, I never say no to a night that I don’t have to get the kitchen messy.

So that leaves me with the question of, what do I wear when I have to get ready fast? Enter this fall ensemble. I love this outfit for a few reasons. #1 It’s comfortable. #2 It’s fashionable. #3 I get to wear my favorite scarf . #4 It’s easy to put on in a snap. Even if one of the pieces is in the laundry, I have other similar pieces that can take it’s place. #5 I can wear my favorite neutral, leopard!

While this outfit seems to have a lot going on with the stripes, plaid and leopard, all of the patterns still work together because of the neutral colors of the top and vest. The scarf helps to add a little pattern and texture to the outfit. The other great thing about this outfit is that you can pair any color scarf with it or a statement necklace instead.

Fall Fashion :: Plaid & Chambray

Fall is my favorite time of the year. I love to bust out my plaid, boots and a puffy vest while I sip on a chai tea latte. But along with this time of the year I also get a little bit frustrated with trying to figure out what to wear. Living in the Midwest does have it’s perks since we get to enjoy all four seasons. But sometimes, we experience every season in less than 48 hours! This past week we’ve had chilly mornings in the 40s-50s but the afternoon warms right up to a balmy 80 degrees. So, how’s a girl to dress in this kind of fall heat?
Fall Fashion : Plaid & Chambray

While I’ve been itching to wear my new plaid scarf like every other 20 something girl in America, I know that wearing a wool scarf isn’t the most practical fashion choice to make. Since I want to look fall appropriate when I step out the door but also not be sweating in a sweater, I’ve been turning to a few fall staples in my wardrobe to get me through these awkward weather weeks.

Fall Fashion : Plaid & Chambray

I recently picked up a polka dot chambray dress from the Loft and I was so excited to wear this once the temperatures started to take a dip. It’s comfy, the polka dots add some cuteness to it, and best of all, it’s a dress with sleeves that I can roll up or down depending on the temperature that day. A chambray dress is a staple that every girl should have in her wardrobe because it works any time of the year. Since I feel that plaid is the best accessory to wear during fall, I paired it with a vest from LL Bean. I love wearing vests and I especially love the plaid color in this one. It’s perfect for fall and the colors work well with any outfit through the rest of the winter season.

Fall Fashion : Plaid & Chambray

To me, no outfit is complete without some bling so I added my favorite statement necklace from ShopLately and chose a pair of brown booties to also feel a bit more fall-ish. This outfit worked great for me because I was warm in the morning with the vest and my sleeves rolled down and once the sun warmed up the afternoon, I was able to take off the vest and roll up my sleeves and still look fall appropriate.

A Shorts Story

I’ve mentioned before how growing up I was (well and still am) such a girly girl that I insisted on wearing my “dress jammies” to bed each night. That’s still true today as I still love to wear a dress over a pair of pants or shorts in the summer.

But, shorts have come back in a BIG way the past few years. From cutoff denim to the popular high waisted shorts to dressing up a pair of them, you can find girls rocking shorts anywhere and everywhere. I think the reason it’s hard for me to still wear pants is because I often struggle to find the right pair! I don’t want them too short because well that’s just not comfortable, but I don’t want shorts down to my knees that make me look like I’m frumpy. I’ve found the best shorts this past year at The Limited and Loft. And with some experimentation, my research has helped me to decide the best inseam length for shorts is either 4″ or 5″. For me, these are the perfect length of shorts because they still are an appropriate length but also fit well and still look stylish.

Here is one of my favorite shorts looks that I have. What I love about it most is that I can dress it up or dress it down. The highlight of the outfit is the polka dot shorts, and let’s be real who doesn’t love polka dots?! I can dress this outfit up with some flats or wear it out at night with some heels. These shorts even look great with a plain white t-shirt and a colorful statement necklace. The possibilities are endless for this classic black and white ensemble.

Anniversary Vacation to Scottsdale

Last weekend, my husband and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary. Since we got married on a long holiday weekend, our plan was that each year we would go on a vacation for our anniversary since we had extra days off. Originally, we had plans to stay home because life has been pretty busy for the both of us lately between work, traveling to weddings and the hubs traveling for his side business of doing photos and videos. But, me being the jet setter that I am, I knew we both wouldn’t want to be home that weekend. So, with about 6 days notice, we booked a long weekend down to Scottsdale, Arizona. We’ve been there before a number of times but it has always been work related so we’ve never gotten the opportunity to explore the area. since it’s only a short flight away, we thought this was the perfect place to go explore for the weekend!

We had our anniversary dinner at the J&G Steakhouse at The Phoenician. The restaurant was on the roof and it overlooked Scottsdale and their beautiful pool area. Interesting fact, the pool had a dive in movie that night which they played UP on. Coincidentally, I gave my husband an “adventure book” as part of his wedding present when we got married, and the card I gave him for our anniversary was an UP theme too!

Nautical :: Timeless & Classic

You know the saying, mom is always right? Turns out, it’s true.

I remember growing up and my mom always wore nautical inspired clothing in the summer. She’s a classy lady so it was never a surprise to see her sporting some anchors on a shirt or sporting some fabulous sandals. She always told me what a classic look nautical was and I never really got into the style, until this year.

This season, The Limited, has had some of the CUTEST nautical inspired items. While I do have my share of shirts and scarves with anchors, there’s something about this outfit I put together today that is just classic and timeless. I’d really love to wear this on a boat, but since that’s not happening anytime soon, wearing this outfit to work or out to lunch will work just fine.

I picked up a pair of navy ankle pants and paired it with a three quarter sleeve navy and white blue striped top. To make this a but more business appropriate for work, I paired a navy and white blazer with the sleeves rolled up to show off the polka dot cuff. Sticking with the nautical theme, I completed the outfit with a straw purse and added a touch of metallic to my ensemble with my gold wedges. And since it’s Memorial Day tomorrow, I went a little patriotic and added a red statement necklace for some color.

Whether you’re on a yacht drinking mimosas or are out to brunch with your girlfriends, I think this is the perfect outfit to kick off the summer all while looking classy and fabulous.

Leaving On A Jet Plane :: Travel Fashion

There’s only one thing I want when I’m traveling and that is to be comfortable. I need to wear something that covers my legs and arms because I often get cold on planes. But I want something this is still stylish so I can hit the ground running when I land at my destination. And, the outfit needs to be weather appropriate because I don’t want to be stuck wearing a parka when I fly to a hot climate!

Here’s my travel outfit for this weekend. I recently picked up this green and navy striped maxi dress from the Limited that is so comfortable! Maxis are my dress of choice when I travel in the summer because they keep my legs warm and it transitions well into a nice piece to wear the rest of the day once I land. To keep it casual, I paired it with a jean jacket and my Sam Edelman Gigi sandals in black. My Tory Burch Robinson purse is the perfect airplane carry on because it’s large enough to hold my iPad, headphones and snacks for the plane.

Memorial Day weekend has a new special meaning to me because it’s also mine and my husband’s wedding anniversary. On Monday, we’ll be married for one year. I seriously can’t believe that it’s already been an entire year of being Mr and Mrs. I think this year has gone faster than any year we were just dating.

As I was looking back on our wedding, I put together this little slideshow of some of our wedding photos. While I would love to make a film strip of all 2500 wedding photos and tell you about each one, I’ll spare you the time. Instead, here are some of my favorite moments from our special day :) And special thanks to Bellow Blue Photography for capturing all of these fantastic photos of our wedding day!

Pink & Pearls

Ever since I was a little girl, being a girly girl was totally my thing. Pink was my favorite color. Everything in my room was pink, from the carpet to my bedding to the fan. I was so that I even had to wear “dress jammies” to bed each night. I didn’t care what was on it..Minnie Mouse or the Wizard of Oz, I just needed a dress on to go to sleep. I’d insist on wearing a dress each day too, and mom would often find me playing in the middle of the street, laying in tar…all in a dress.

Some things never change as you grow up. Pink is still my favorite color and I prefer to wear dresses in the summer over pants. As I’ve grown up, my style has definitely taken on a classic approach. I gravitate towards items that are timeless and look classy.

Today I’m sporting one of my favorite casual, classy looks. Since spring time can be an awkward weather time, this outfit to me is for a spring day running errands. I paired my favorite skinny jeans from Express with a sleeveless pink blouse from Target. The jeans help keep me warm if it’s chilly out, but the sleeveless top is perfect if it gets a little hot out. If it does cold, just throw a cardigan on and you’re all set.

I wanted to add a bit of flair to my outfit, so I accessorized with one of my favorite baubles, a pearl cluster necklace from Shop Lately. There’s enough bling to make me sparkle but the pearls paired with the pink make it a classy look. To get a little funky, I styled it with my leopard belt, because let’s be real, leopard is a neutral right? And to complete the outfit, I have on my favorite Tory Burch sandals.
