Winter Essentials

Now that the holidays are here, it can only mean one thing for the weather outside which is that the snow and cold are on their way. I’ve lived in the Midwest my whole life and I still have yet to find an appreciation for the snow and cold. While I really don’t like being cold and I’d much rather spend my winters soaking up the sun on a beach somewhere, here’s some of the essentials that have helped to make winter a little more bearable for me.

Winter Essentials

Electric Blanket :: I love putting an electric blanket on my bed each night to help warm it up before I snuggle into my bed and head to sleep. When the temperature gets below zero, you’ll also find me snuggled up on my couch in it. Both of my dogs LOVE to lay on it to keep warm too!

Shea Aloe Socks :: Since I workout a lot, my feet take some wear and tear to them. These socks not only help to keep my feet warm but they’re also so incredibly soft! Made with aloe and shea butter, pair these socks with some foot lotion and your feet will be as smooth as a baby! And, they come in the CUTEST designs!

Bath and Body Works Hand Cream :: Along with soft feet, a girl wants to have soft hands too! I tend to have super dry hands all year long and this hand cream is the only kind that will make them feel better.

Hunter Boots :: When it’s snowing and wet outside, you need a good pair of boots to help you out. Hunter Boots are the BEST  pair of boots that I’ve ever had. Made of rubber, so they won’t get soaked when they get wet, they’re also easy to wipe off any salt or dirt that gets on them. I also love the fleece sock inserts I have to help keep my feet even warmer. These boots are also practical because you can wear them in the spring when it’s raining out!

North Face Parka :: One thing I’ve had a lot of over the years is winter coats, and this jacket by North Face is by far the best one I’ve ever had. It’s insulated and has goose down feathers in it so it helps to keep you warm and the cold air out. I don’t even mind being outside in below zero weather because this coat keeps me so warm!

Teavana Tumbler :: I love drinking tea in the morning and this tumbler, which is made of stainless steel, keeps your beverage warm for up to 6 hours. A perfect staple for those super cold days when I need something warm to drink all day.

Blanket Scarves :: It goes without saying that blanket scarves are one of the best things ever made. They’re a staple in my winter wardrobe because they help keep me warm and I love adding one to an outfit.

Slippers :: I’ve never been a big fan of wearing socks, but I also ALWAYS have feet as cold as icicles so I need something on my feet to keep my toes warm. I love getting a pair of fun “house shoes” each year and I especially love wearing moccasins around the house. This plaid pair is so festive to wear this time of the year and the fur inside help keep my feet toasty.

QUESTION // What’s winter like where you live?

May & June Favorites

I had full intentions of filming this but sometimes life gets in the way and it was much easier for me to write a post then set-up, film, edit etc. So instead of watching me about my monthly favorites, let’s take a stab at writing about them!

I didn’t get a chance to do a May Favorites which the perfectionist in me was bummed about. My birthday + our anniversary + lots of work + vacation = something just gotta give. But on the bright side, I’m combining all of my favorites from the past month into this little post which means the more the merrier!

May/June Favorites

Fresh Lip Sugar – Petal :: I forgot how much I loved this color! I’ve always been a fan of the Fresh Lip Sugars and this color is the perfect my lips but better color. It’s also smooth, buttery and moisturizing on the lips.

Covergirl Jumbo Balm – Raspberry :: I bought this to use as a winter lip color since berry’s are great to wear in the colder weather. I keep this next to my keys by my garage door and always put it on before I head out. Easy to put on and a great color for summer too!

It Cosmetics Vitality Disc :: This has always caught my eye at Ulta but I always passed by it. Did I really need another blush in my collection? Well, yes I do. I thought this would be great for traveling since it’s all in on product and the mirror on it is HUGE which is also a plus for when you’re on the go.

Morrocan Oil Dry Shampoo :: The smell of Morrocan Oil products is my fave! When I heard they have a dry shampoo, I had to run out and get it. It is a bit pricey but totally worth it. Smells great, doesn’t leave a residue in your hair and makes it feel fresh!

Amlaction Lotion :: While on vacation I got the most dry elbows ever. Like lizard dry skin status. My normal lotions weren’t doing the trick so I picked this up at CVS. This has made my dry skin and my keratosis pilaris (aka my chicken skin) so smooth! It’s a miracle product!

Barrington Bag :: My mom and I have been lusting after Barrington Bags for awhile. You’re able to customize the colors, type of bag and monogram on it. We often send each other photos of the next bag we want. My mom picked this up for me for our recent vacation and it was a great bag to travel with! I got the black and white stripes because they’re my favorite and I thought the pink and orange looked brighter and summery on it. It has a few pockets on the inside which was great to hold my wallet, passport and water and it also zipped up so I knew my things were safe.

Workout tanks :: Since I started Pure Barre, my workout collection has been growing. I’ve been really into these muscle tanks because they’re loose and flowy so I don’t overheat while working out. I love them so much that I’ve made some and they’re now available in my Etsy shop!

Bed Spray :: I have never been a good sleeper so I’m always on the lookout for products to help me get my zzzz’s in. I spotted this in the travel section at CVS and I love to spritz it on my pillow before bed to help soothe me to sleep.

Target Sunglasses :: Whenever we go on vacation, I always buy a cheap pair of sunglasses to bring with. I’d rather not loose my expensive ones while on the other side of the world. This pair from Target was so adorable with the floral sides that I couldn’t say no!

January Favorites

We officially have one month of the year 2015 complete! It’s hard to believe how fast time flies. I feel like we were just celebrating Christmas and New Year’s!

While I didn’t have many beauty favorites this month, I have some new snack favorites this month and an exciting announcement about a recent endeavor of mine so check it out!

Yearly Favorites :: Beauty

Normally at the beginning of the month you’d see my favorites from the past month. Since it’s the ending of one year and the beginning of another, I thought I’d share some of my all-time beauty favorites from the entire year. Here’s a recap of what were my all-time favorite, always reading for beauty products for 2014!

November Favorites

Happy December 1! I can’t believe Christmas is only 25 days away. It feels like 2014 has just flown by, but doesn’t every year feel like that? I love this time of the year and am counting down the days until Christmas so I can enjoy some time off, relax, see my family and of course, open presents!

Today I have the last of my monthly favorites for this year. Next month, I’ll be doing a mini-series on my all-time favorites from the past year. The items I mention in those videos will be categorized (i.e. foundation, concealer etc) and I’ll only mention something in a category if I REALLY love it..meaning if I have no favorite in that category then there will be no favorite. I’ll also have another video about my yearly lifestyle favorites (i.e. candles, fashion, food etc) so be on the look out for those at the end of this month and beginning of January!

October Favorites

I’m back with another monthly favorites! I skipped last month because I was on vacation in September and didn’t get a chance to try out many new products. Have no fear though, I not only did some shopping this past month but I searched my makeup collection and have some rediscovered favorites. Enjoy!
