2015 Resolutions & Goals :: Update

With the arrival of Spring just a week away, I thought it would be a good time to do a check-in of my yearly resolutions I set back in January. Since the start of the year, I’ve also added some new goals I’m working towards that I wanted to share with you all too!

  • Eat cleaner

I’ve been trying to stick to a meal plan and have even done some breakfast and lunch prep on the weekends to make the week less stressful. However, some of our nights are crazy busy and after a long day at work, cooking is the last thing on my mind so a pizza and salad it is. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow. But it’s ok to splurge like that since I workout everyday, right?

  • Focus on me a little bit more

Life has been busy lately so it’s been hard for me to take time to myself to chill out and relax. I’m definitely working on this as I need some more calm in my life.

  • Go on more dates

Our date nights seem to have been close together the past few months. We’ll typically go on about 2 dates in a week span and then not have anything fun planned for awhile. Thankfully since it’s getting nicer out we’ve been starting to enjoy the outdoors and squeeze in a round of golf on the weekends.

  • Unplug a little bit more

We took the plunge and got rid of cable in our house so I’d call that a success! We’re relying on an antennae for local stations and a Roku/Amazon Firestick for Netflix, Amazon Prime and limited cable channels through Sling. It’s been kind of nice not always having the TV on and I’ve found I’ve been more productive around the house since we cut the cord.

  • Read more

I’ve read one book each month this year for our book club and have been reading some other books in my spare time. I’d call that a win!

Shortly after the first of the year, I added some new goals that I’m working towards.

  • Run a half marathon in under 2 hours

At the half marathon I ran last year, I tried so hard to break 2 hours but it wasn’t in the cards for me. I’m really trying to push myself to do it at this year’s Lincoln Half Marathon in May. I would really love to get a PR since it’s a few days before my birthday and I think that’d make a great present to myself!

  • Step up my blog game

Ever since attending the Go Blog Social Workshop and with the upcoming Go Blog Social Conference, I’ve really been inspired to step up my blog game. I feel like I’m more consistent than I ever have been with blogging and I’m really proud of myself for it since this is a hobby that’s a bit more like a part time job without the pay. I’m also working towards increasing my social media following on all accounts which is slowly but surely growing. This year I’m also thinking of possibly redesigning my site and starting to offer some social media and design services to other. It’s all in the works though, nothing is set in stone. We’ll see where the wind takes me with this one.

  • Attend 100 Pure Barre classes by my Birthday in May and get my splits back by the end of the year

Growing up I was a dancer, baton twirler and ice skater so being flexible was easy peazy for me since I was always stretching, spinning and jumping. I always thought that I wouldn’t be one of those “old people” who loses these skills when they get older. Boy was I wrong. All of my running and lifting weights has caused my muscles to become tighter over the years. I’m hoping that with my consistent Pure Barre class schedule I’ll start to get my splits back in no time.

  • Stop spending money and stick to a budget

This one is always a work in progress. I’m so bad at spending money and have always been that way. If I have a dollar in my pocket, it burns a whole in there and I feel the need to spend it asap! The word BUDGET is just non-existent in my vocabulary. I’m so guilty of weekly Target trips, caving in to that 40% off sale at Loft because I “needed new pants” and indulging in retail therapy and buying new clothes because “a new outfit makes me feel better.” I’ve been trying to make a conscious effort to cut back on my spending habits but it’s been tough because I can’t tell myself no sometimes! Along with this goal, I’m trying to adopt the philosophy of quality over quantity. I recently purged my closet and realized I had so many clothes that I’ve never worn or clothes I wear but didn’t like the way they looked or felt on me. My new philosophy is to only have a number of nice things that I wear often rather than tons of items that I wear only once in awhile.

QUESTION // Did you set New Year’s Resolutions? Are you sticking to them?

2015 Resolutions

Happy 2015 to you! I hope that all of you had a fabulous New Year’s Eve and a restful day off of work yesterday! We had a low-key evening at home on NYE. We made appetizers in our new deep fryer that we got for Christmas and followed that up with lounging on the couch all night. Husband played video games and watched football while I dozed in and out of sleep till midnight. I know, we’re party animals but we love spending time at home and relaxing so it was perfect for us!

With a new year always comes resolutions and goals. I debated about even making any this year as most of the time I forget about them after a month and don’t stick to them. I’m hoping that by writing them down it makes me more accountable to them. I may even do a monthly catch-up post to update you (and myself) on my progress.

1. Eat a little bit cleaner

While I don’t have the worse diet in the world, I know I can do better. One bad habit I have is always sneaking a dessert after lunch (and dinner..oops!). I always tell myself that since I work out 6 days a week that it’s ok I do that. While I’m not trying to lose weight, I know that stopping some of the sweets and treats will make myself feel a little bit better. I know that while I’m not packing on the pounds it’s obviously not good for me.

2. Focus on me a little bit more

I know this sounds totally selfish but I don’t mean it like that. Right now I have a lot of goals I want to accomplish both for my blog and another new exciting project that I can’t wait to tell you guys about. I want to grow my blog to something much bigger  and better and I know that it will take a lot of hard work and sacrifice for that to happen. I’m hoping that my focusing a little bit more on me, my blog and my new project it will lead to some better and exciting things in life :)

3. Go on more dates

Seems a little odd of a goal when it’s just me and my husband and we have no kids yet. But, we often get stuck in the rut of going out to eat at the same places and not doing as many fun things like we used to when we first started dating. While I know this is what happens once you grow older, both my husband and I love to try new things and new restaurants. One thing we started late in the fall was every Sunday we go golfing and out to brunch afterwards. I’m hoping we can start more fun, monthly date-night traditions like this.

4. Unplug a little bit more

I’m notorious for always having my phone in my hand and constantly looking at social media or shopping on my phone. Many nights I will have the TV on but I never watch what’s on it because I’m too busy playing a game, watching Youtube or catching up on Facebook. It’s such a terrible habit and I need to take a step back from technology. While I love catching up on my friends latest photos on Instagram, I know that missing seeing of them won’t make me a worse person. I’m hoping to stop myself from always having an electronic in my hand and live a little bit more in the moment.

5. Read more

Along with unplugging from technology a little bit, I really want to get back into reading. Growing up I always had my head in a book when I had a free moment and it wasn’t uncommon for me to finish an entire Babysitter’s Club book in one day. Right now, my reading consists of whatever book I have downloaded on my kindle app that I read while on the treadmill. I want to make reading a part of my everyday life and read more than just a few minutes a day, which hopefully will help me to accomplish reading many more books this year.

Beauty Blogger Book Club

To help with this goal, I’ve teamed up with my friend Michelyn at Brains, Beauty & Basketball  and All Dressed Up in Love to launch a new series called Beauty Blogger Book Club (BBBC). Each month one of the BBBC members will select a book for the club to read. At the beginning of the following month, we’ll each post a review of the book and announce the next book in the series. I’m really looking forward to reading more books and also discovering books that are out of my normal reading comfort zone. This month, Michelyn selected “A Mad, Wicked Folly” by Sharon Biggs Walter for us to read :)

If you’d like to join our book club, just send me an email and I’ll pass along the information to you. Don’t worry about if you aren’t a blogger, anyone can participate!

Time For A Fresh Start

Hey remember me!

Blog..it’s been on my to do list for weeks. But when I come home from a long day of work where I just stared at a computer screen for 8+ hours, the last thing I’ve wanted to do was sit down with my laptop and stare at a screen again. Watching Full House and Friends while I snuggle on the couch with my husband and fur babies seemed like a much better idea.

Until now. One of my resolutions for the New Year was to get back into blogging on a regular basis. Writing has always been a passion of mine and I’m looking forward to getting back into it. Expect a variety of posts from me..from running and makeup to fashion to recipes and everything in between!

So first up…my New Year’s resolutions! I have some new goals and changes to make this new year. Some I’ve already succeeded at and others I’ve failed at. I plan on taking a day at the end of each month to recap where I’m at with my resolutions and see how I’m working towards my goals.

//Blog More

//Spend less time playing on my iPad and social media each night

//Incorporate more Yoga into my workout habits

//Become a faster runner

//Cut back on my clothes/makeup shopping habit

//Cut back on my sweets eating habit

//Focus on eating more fruits and veggies.

What goals are you working towards this year?
