The Perfect Christmas Outfit

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is only a week away! I feel like we all anxiously await this time of the year and it always goes by so quickly. Does anyone else get depressed after the holidays? For some reason I think the days between Christmas and New Years are just sad days because the magic of Christmas is over and we have to wait a whole year for it to be here again.

Around this time of the year, I love to wear gold and plaid and I’ve incorporated both into what has become one of my favorite holiday casual looks to wear! If you couldn’t tell by my blog design, I love gold polka dots. The shiny, metallic makes things seem a bit more chic and luxe. And well polka dots are just adorable on anything!

And plaid is just the thing to wear during the holidays. There’s something so festive about green, white and red together in any form! Although today’s look is casual, there’s a variety of holiday events you can wear it to..out doing last minute Christmas shopping, gift exchange with your girlfriends or while you’re traveling to see your family.

A Shorts Story

I’ve mentioned before how growing up I was (well and still am) such a girly girl that I insisted on wearing my “dress jammies” to bed each night. That’s still true today as I still love to wear a dress over a pair of pants or shorts in the summer.

But, shorts have come back in a BIG way the past few years. From cutoff denim to the popular high waisted shorts to dressing up a pair of them, you can find girls rocking shorts anywhere and everywhere. I think the reason it’s hard for me to still wear pants is because I often struggle to find the right pair! I don’t want them too short because well that’s just not comfortable, but I don’t want shorts down to my knees that make me look like I’m frumpy. I’ve found the best shorts this past year at The Limited and Loft. And with some experimentation, my research has helped me to decide the best inseam length for shorts is either 4″ or 5″. For me, these are the perfect length of shorts because they still are an appropriate length but also fit well and still look stylish.

Here is one of my favorite shorts looks that I have. What I love about it most is that I can dress it up or dress it down. The highlight of the outfit is the polka dot shorts, and let’s be real who doesn’t love polka dots?! I can dress this outfit up with some flats or wear it out at night with some heels. These shorts even look great with a plain white t-shirt and a colorful statement necklace. The possibilities are endless for this classic black and white ensemble.

Making a statement

Wearing a statement necklace has become my go to accessory for my outfits recently. Being the girly girl that I am, I always loved adding a little bit of sparkle and shine to my outfits. What I love the most about these necklaces is, well simply put, they make a statement! You can dress them up or down, and you can make them work with almost any outfit!

Here’s how I’ve been styling some of my favorite statement necklaces recently:

This shirt from Express is one of my favorite things to wear. It’s a blouse in a beautiful hot pink color, and I think it just screams springtime! Here, I paired two of my favorite statement necklaces with it. Both of the necklaces are from and the top one is a pearl cluster while the bottom one is a bling bouquet necklace. Since it’s a plain colored top, adding both the sparkle and the pearl create a statement that works with this outfit.

I wanted to experiment with color and mixing prints with this outfit. I think that polka dots and red are a classic look that always go together, but decided to take a walk on the wild side and add the leopard belt. Since the belt is skinny, it doesn’t clash with the rest of the outfit. The necklace helps to add some texture and sparkle to this ensemble.

I am not your typical jeans and a t-shirt kinda girl. One day I wanted to wear my favorite rhinestone Wisconsin Badger t-shirt to work, while still looking work appropriate. Since my shirt and blazer were black, I decided to dress up this dressed down look with the pearl cluster necklace.  While this is a casual look, I think the necklace added some sophistication to this otherwise plain look.

Leopard is one of my favorite things to wear and I find that I wear it a lot during the winter time. I wanted to bring my favorite “neutral” into springtime, so I paired it with a coral cardigan. Coral is one of my favorite spring time colors to wear! Adding this floral necklace helped to add some bling to the outfit while not making it too busy with the bright color and leopard print top.

4While on vacation, I wanted to still wear my favorite baubles. Pairing the floral bling necklace with this fun wifey t-shirt helped me feel a little bit more dressed up on a casual night out on the beach.

2While I love wearing pink and polka dots together, this outfit needed a little bit of pop to it. I added this multicolored bouquet necklace to my outfit which helped take it from classy to fabulous.

As you can see, it’s easy to make a lot of different looks with statement necklaces by either dressing them up or down, or pairing them together to create a new look. has become my new go-to website when I want statement necklaces because not only are there tons to choose from, but they’re inexpensive too! The site reminds me a lot of Etsy as they have different sellers/stores on there that you can purchase from. They not only have necklaces but other jewelry and accessories and even clothes! I could spend hours on there looking for new jewels to add to my collection..oh wait, I already have spent hours finding my favorites! If you’re looking to add to your accessory collection, I highly recommend checking them out!

Fun, Food and Fabulous during Ladies’ Night at Midtown Crossing

Last night I had such a great time at Ladies’ Night at Glo Lounge. It was a fun night to get out, enjoy a few drinks and meet some new friends!

I met up with Jordan of Harleys and Heels at Me and Me Boutique. Jordan is an absolute doll and with her love of Harley’s and my roots from Milwaukee, we found some things to talk about! We were both loaned some fabulous outfits from Lisa, the owner of Me and Me. I had lots of fun with Lisa picking out my outfits earlier this week. She has impeccable taste and knows how to pull an outfit together. There is quite an assortment of clothes and accessories in her store and I will definitely be making a trip back to make a few spring purchases!

Lisa put together 2 looks for both Jordan and me. My first look was a pair of leather shorts, paired with a khaki jacket. She accessorized it with a fun printed fedora hat and we added some color in with a pop of green with the scarf. She also has some shoes for sale in her store from a store that’s located in the Old Market and she picked out these turquoise booties to complete the look. I really loved this outfit and best of all, it was so affordable! I felt a bit like Carrie Bradshaw in it and this would be a fantastic outfit to wear on a date or even better, during Ladies’ Night with your best gal pals!

Once we got to Glo Lounge, we enjoyed some drinks and chatted with two other local bloggers Jessica and Danielle. Both of them were modeling outfits from The Ugly Sister. Not only does this store have great clothes, but they had tons of jewelry and fun gifts, including some fun wine glasses! I have my eye on a couple of statement necklaces that I spotted there and am thinking I need to add them to my collection asap!

After mingling for awhile, we moved onto look number two. Lisa wanted to put myself and Jordan into outfits that would feel spring ready and my dress really made me look forward to warm weather. No more cold temperatures means pedicures, dresses and dinner on the patio! I wore this adorable yellow ruffle halter dress that had a sassy fringe tie on the back. We accessorized with a gold chain necklace and a fun polka dotted printed purse. And can we walk about how fabulous Jordan looks in this jumpsuit! I think both of these outfits may need to make their way into my suitcase for my upcoming vacation to the Caribbean! Both of these ensembles could be dressed up with heels for a dinner date out on the town or dressed down with some cute sandals and you could wear for an everyday look!

outfit 2

Overall it was a fantastic night out and I’m looking forward to bringing some of my girlfriends down there for an upcoming ladies night!

And the winner goes to…

Ever since I was a little girl, I have LOVED dresses. I wouldn’t go to bed at night unless I would have on my “dress jammies.” Although I’ve graduated from wearing watermelon dresses and dress pajamas with the Wizard of Oz on them, I still love nothing more than wearing a dress. I think dresses are such a great piece that can be dressed up or down and can be worn in any season. Take a floral dress for example. You can wear it in the summer with sandals and a jean jacket or give it a winter feel with a blazer, tights and boots.

It should be no surprise that after competing in pageants for years, I love to see the latest red carpet looks…and in my mind, the more sparkles the better! Although you don’t always need some rhinestones to shine on the red carpet, simple looks also stand out as well..I think because they’re timeless and classy, and

So without further ado, and in true pageant girl fashion, here are my top picks from the Oscar’s!

86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Anne Hathaway :: I loved this black silhouette on her and the metal detail accents on the top were a risk worth taking for her. She looks very chic in this dress.

Penelope Cruz :: Chiffon is one of my favorite fabrics. Penelope looks sweet and elegant in this delicate, pastel colored gown.

Jennifer Lawrence :: I just love a good peplum. I think peplums look good on everybody..and most importantly, they are a classic, timeless silhouette. This red really acts as a power color for Jennifer. I personally would have paired it with some bigger earrings or a large statement necklace, but I think she chose the elegant route and she really looks fabulous in it.

Sandra Bullock :: To me, navy is the new black. There’s something so elegant about this color and it really stands out on her. While I am not a fan of the fabric (it looks velour to me), I really think this silhouette, especially with the draping, looks fantastic on her.

Jessica Biel :: She looks dazzling in this nude colored gown with rhinestones. It really shows off her awesome figure.

Kristin Chenoweth :: While she looks to me like she belongs on an Oscar, this dress really helps to elongate a petite Kristin and make her appear taller than she really is. The beadwork on her gown is absolutely fantastic and I can only imagine how this sparkled in person!

86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Lupita Nyong’o :: With her dark complexion, chose a pastel colored dress was a wise choice for Lupita as it really makes her stand out. This gown reminds me of countless pageant gowns I have seen before, so that’s probably why I gravitated towards it. With so much chiffon, this gown just floated on down the red carpet.

Jenna Dewan Tatum :: I really like the ruffle detail on the bottom of her dress. I’m not a fan of the short sleeves on it, but I am not quite sure what top would have looked good on this otherwise. Overall, a fabulous choice.

:: TOP 5:

Fourth Runner Up

86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Maria Menounos :: We all know how i love to sparkle and shine, and Maria hit the nail on the head with this gown. I love the rhinestone detail added around her midsection that helps to define her silhouette and show off her figure. The cap sleeves also make it timeless.

Third Runner Up

Giuliana Rancic

Giuliana Rancic :: This dress reminds me of a Sherri Hill Prom Dress that I am would totally wear if I were going to Prom again. While a ball gown can make one look a bit younger than they truly are, with the nude color on this dress, it looks beautiful on her.

Second Runner Up

86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Charlize Theron :: This is a total Jessica Rabbit dress. Although it has the black sheer overlay, it still shows off her body. And the way the sweetheart neckline goes up to her shoulders…just WOW on this dress!

First Runner Up

86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Lara Spencer :: When I saw this dress of Lara, I thought this was so different. I love that it’s not the typical rhinestones on her gown. The big beads on it really make statement.

And The Winner Of The Best Dressed At The Oscars Goes Too…

….drum roll please…..

86th Annual Academy Awards - People Magazine Arrivals

Kate Hudson :: I have loved Kate Hudson for the longest time and one of my favorite dresses I can imagine her in is the yellow dress in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. I love the color white on her. The plunging neckline paired with the sleeves draping and the train make her look like a class act.
