Disney Royal Family 5K and Disney Princess Expo Recap

I’m breaking up my Disney weekend into 2 posts. First up, a recap of the Disney Princess Half Marathon Expo and the Disney Royal Family 5k.

B and I got to Orlando a little later than we wanted to. A snowstorm on Thursday caused the cancellation of our early Friday morning flight. We were able to rebook our flight which now would include 2 layovers and 14 hour of travel. Luckily, Mr. B has quite the mileage status and we were the lucky 2 able to get spots on a new flight via standby at our first layover.

Once we got to Orlando, we headed over to the expo. The expo was held at Coronado Springs resort, which I had never been to. Since parking at the resort was at a minimum, we were required to hop a bus at Downtown Disney to ride over to the expo. I read that a lot of people were unhappy about this and had issues, but we had no problem at all. We walked right onto a bus when we got there and had about a 5 minute ride over to the hotel.

The expo space was large and I didn’t experience any issues there. I thought I would have to wait in line to pick up my number, but not so much the case. I walked right up to pick up my bib for both the half marathon and 5k, then proceeded to pick up my goodie bag, with again no wait. The booths at the expo were a bit small, so we didn’t stop at too many booths. I did purchase a really cute New Balance top that has an image of high heels and a running shoe..could I have purchased a more perfect shirt? I also picked up another Run Disney Princess shirt that I had my eye on. In order to get into the official Run Disney merchandise area, you were required to wait in line since the area with the apparel was quite small. I waited maybe 5 minutes in line before getting in. I didn’t have a problem waiting..it is Disney World after all where you wait in line…A LOT!

The expo had a huge wall with all the names of everyone participating in the 5k and/or half marathon.

After the expo, B and I had dinner at Downtown Disney and spent some time walking around down there. We had an early morning filled with traveling and we wanted to get to bed early since we had to get up the next morning at 4:30 am.

Our number bibs for the race..how stinking cute are they?

On Saturday morning, we both participated in the Mickey and Minnie Royal Family 5k at Epcot. We got up at 4:30 and were on our way to Epcot by 5 am. We had a short drive to Epcot and had no issues with traffic on the way there. Once there, we stopped by bag check, walked around and took some pictures and by 6 am were in our corral. We got into corral A and we think it’s because of my half marathon qualifying time. There were about 8,000 runners on Saturday and there were I believe 8 corrals with the stroller division being the last.
Start line of the Royal Family 5k

It was a grand start to the event with Mickey and Minnie starting the run. Each corral got fireworks as they left the start line which was pretty neat. The race ran around the Epcot parking lot, through the back lots of Epcot, all through the park and ended back where we started. Once we entered the park, Disney songs were playing and it was a really neat feeling getting to run around the park in the dark while the sun started to rise. There were characters all around the park that you could also stop and have your photo with as well. We stopped once for a photo with Donald and Daisy Duck and I slowed down a few more times to take other pictures around the park.

The 5k was a fun run which meant no official time but my Nike + app said we did it in 34 mins which was fine for us. Once we reached the finish line, we received our medals, water/Powerade and also a box full of refueling snacks. I thought the box of food was a nice touch since it had a good variety of snacks in it.

They also had an area set up where you could have your photo with Mickey and Minnie too and we took advantage of that since the lines weren’t too long.

It was a really humid morning so we were drenched in sweat and couldn’t wait to get back to the hotel to take a shower then explore the parks the rest of the day. If you ever go to Disney for a half marathon or marathon, I highly suggest doing the 5k or whatever shorter run they have along with it. It was a nice lil warm up for me since I had a few days off of running in anticipation of the half marathon but it was also a fun thing to do with B.

Makeup Monday: What’s In My Travel Makeup Bag?

Perfecting my travel makeup bag has always been a struggle for me. I have some travel versions of my favorite items, but I always found myself throwing in my brushes, my favorite everyday makeup and foundation at the last minute before we left. Then I’d get frustrated when we got home, because I’d want my everyday makeup and I’d have to unpack it.
Since B and I travel a lot on the weekends, having a grab and go makeup bag has turned into a necessity for me. Since we can be gone back to back weekends, I needed something that can stay in my suitcase for the week until I pack again and I don’t have to unpack to get some of my everyday things.
Enter, my new and improved travel makeup bag filled with everything I need! It’s been hard finding travel sizes of my favorite things but here’s what I carry with me when we travel. I’m using a Vera Bradley makeup bag that is perfect for it because it has two inside mesh pockets and a large area in the middle where I can put different items (i.e. face, eyes, lips). It also has an outside pocket that holds some q-tips, bobby pins and extra hair ties.
I feel like I owe this Sephora set I recently purchased the thanks for helping me complete my travel makeup bag. It has some great full size and deluxe size items I’ve always wanted to try but didn’t want to spend the money on for the full size for fear of me not liking it. I’ve tried out everything in it and absolutely love it!!

This is a palette that you buy and you can snap out what colors you want. I made mine with a blush, and three eyeshadows: a highlight shade, light brown and a dark brown. This doesn’t get a lot of love in my everyday makeup look so I thought it’d be a good basic to have with me when I travel

Hello again!

I’ve seriously been lacking in the posting department this past month because I’ve been out of town most of the time. The few times I am home, I’m cleaning or doing laundry…doing more work or sleeping! This is the first time in over a month that I’ve had a chance to sit down and relax for a few hours..

I’ve been super swamped at work and the past four weekends I was out of town working pageants. Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Illinois to be exact…this next weekend we are off to Missouri=no rest for the weary!

I’m making this one short and sweet but I’ll be back in action now!

3…2….1….lift off!

I like to consider myself an expert traveler. Ok….I’m not an expert, but with how much traveling I do, I’ve definitely learned about how to pack and what to pack. I fly at least once a month and almost every weekend from March until Labor day I’m on the road traveling with my part time job with the pageant. Being gone this much means I don’t have the time to unpack everyday necessities, so I’ve learned to buy two of all my essentials: a regular size and travel edition.

Here are some of my best tips that I hope will help you the next time you travel….

PACKING

Packing is something you either dread or you enjoy. I particularly enjoy it because I am always excited to go out of town. However, in this day and age where airlines charge you an arm and a leg for luggage, we all have to be a bit stricter on ourselves with what we pack. For me, that means one less pair of shoes….or three ;) No lie, one of the times I get the most nervous is when I do check my bag and they have to weigh it!! I’m always over the limit, but a nice smile always gets me off the hook (teehee!)

Since many people are opting these days to forgo checked luggage and prefer carryon, I suggest getting fun luggage. Plain black or a bold red color just aren’t as much fun as a print can be. My pick comes from Vera Bradley, the rolling duffle (NOTE: From here on out, you’ll be hearing a lot more about Vera Bradley from me. I have quite the obsession with it!)

The 22″ is perfect as a carry-on. It’s the perfect size for a weekend getaway, not to mention, how adorable is the print!? I’d beware and NOT ever check such adorable luggage. I know from experience with the way that airlines handle bags, the first time you check it that it’ll be ruined in some way or form.

If you do opt to check your luggage and are looking for a good duffle carry-on, I suggest the Weekender from Vera.

You can hold the handles, sling it on your shoulder or use the long shoulder strap. It’s a great size to fit your purse, magazines, books, computer, ipod etc. There’s also 4 pockets on the inside, two on the outside and an outside zippered pocket. As my mom always says, pockets make it easy for you to stow your plane ticket and id so you never lose it. You know the saying….mom is ALWAYS right!

When you do pack, I suggest you put your shoes on the bottom, along with any hair tools so that you clothes rest on top of them when you roll your luggage. Otherwise, the heavy items will weigh down and wrinkle your clothes.

And one last thing…..jewelry packing. I have found the absolute, best thing to pack your jewelry in. And of course, it’s Vera! It’s the jewelry book.

This is perfect for traveling because a) it’s thing b) it has clear, zippered pockets in all different sizes so you have all of your jewelry organized in one place. No more untangling necklaces and trying to match up earrings.

Toiletries
Like I said earlier, get two of everything. It doesn’t matter if you travel a lot, or rarely, but it’ll make your life A LOT easier. I have all of my travel toiletries in a clear, plastic makeup bag all ready to go. This way, before I leave, I can check to see if I need to re-stock anything.

The toiletry essentials include…

-toothbrush
-toothpaste
-shampoo
-conditioner
-razor
-shaving gel
-brush
-lotion
-moisturizer
-face wash

Extra toiletries I pack…

-aspirin
-Static guard
-Febreze
-Downy wrinkle release
-hairspray
-hair ties
-Tide to go stick

Makeup

If anyone is as much of a beauty junkie as me, I know you want to bring ALL of your makeup along, just like myself. But again less is more.

Recently, I’ve found two great travel makeup items that have EVERYTHING you need.

The first is from Bobbi Brown, my makeup of choice. This item is only available from QVC and has all foundation items you need in a small compact. It has corrector, concealer, foundation, and powder. It’s great for travel or to keep in your purse for touch-ups.

The other item is from Toofaced and is the Glamour 2 Go. It has multiple eyeshadow colors, a blush and four lip colors to choose from. Again, in a small compact that won’t take up too much room.

These are just some of the basics….expect more to come at a later date!
