What’s In My Travel Nightstand Bag?

You’re probably wondering, what’s a travel nightstand bag anyways? Well, it’s a tiny bag that includes all of the essentials I need for my nightly bedtime routine.

I’m not a good sleeper at all, so I put together this bag filled with everything I need to do my nightly bedtime routine. This way, even when I’m not sleeping in my own bed, I have a little piece of home with me to make it easier to fall asleep. It’s always packed and ready to go which makes it a breeze to pack when we’re heading out of town.

So, without further ado, let’s take a peek into my nighttime bed routine!

Travel Emergency Essentials Kit

Since I’m always the girl that likes to be prepared, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that I’m the same way when it comes to traveling. I have a small, clear cosmetic bag that I keep packed with essentials at all times. This way it’s easy for me to grab and go when we’re traveling.

I like to keep this bag in my carry-on underneath the seat in front of me for easy access to small necessities such as mints, hair ties and lip balm. Then, when we reach our destination, I pick out my absolute essentials and put them into my purse or tote. Here’s a peek into my travel essentials kit!

What’s in my Beach Bag?

I really thought we were done with the cold weather until earlier this week when the mornings greeted me with 32 degrees. I’m pretty much over this wear a coat one day and the next it’s 75 degrees. I’m dreaming of putting my feet in the sand and soaking up the sun all day long!

Since there are no beaches around me and I’ll have to continue dreaming about white sand beaches until a tropical vacation later this year, in the mean time I’m thinking of what essentials I’ll need in my beach bag. These are some great things to keep packed for a beach vacation, a Saturday spent laying in the sun or hitting up the pool with your gal pals.

Beach Bag Essentials

Beach Bag // Obviously you’ll need something to tote your essentials in. I’m a big fan of a bag made with plastic because it’s easy to wipe down and if water gets on it, it won’t be ruined.

Snacks & Water // Working on your tan can certainly take a lot of work so make sure to pack some snacks to keep you full. And don’t forget a water bottle and remember to stay hydrated!

Wet Ones // I like to keep a pack of wipes in my bag to wipe off any sand or dirt that may get on you.

Hand Sanitizer // A staple item in any bag. Every girl needs hand sanitizer to keep germs away.

Magazines // I love lounging in the sun and indulging in some gossip magazines.

Sunglasses // To help keep the sun out of your eyes, pack a pair of cheap sunglasses. If something happens to them, no biggie.

Sunscreen // I’m a huge fan of spray sunscreen because it’s so easy to apply and doesn’t make a mess on your hands after you’re done applying. Personally, I prefer to use an SPF 30 for my body and an SPF 50 on my face.

Aloe // If you do happen to get burned, make sure this aloe is close by to help alleviate the pain. This is an aloe + lotion so it helps to soothe your burn and also moisturize it so you don’t peel badly. It’s also cooling and feels so so so good on your skin.

What’s In My Blog Conference Bag?

A few weeks ago I talked about how I attended my first blog conference down in Kansas City. As with any day trip, that meant I needed to pack a bag full of necessities and goodies to get me through the day. Here’s what I brought along for my jam-packed #GirlBoss day.

What's in my blog conference bag?

Laptop // I didn’t want to miss any of the action when it came to learning so I brought my laptop to take notes. I’m known for taking copious amounts of notes and I can type much faster than I can write. I also like using my laptop because it makes it much easier for me to organize my thoughts and notes by copying and pasteing. I did see a number of girls using their ipads to take notes which I’ve since invested in a keyboard for mine. While I love my laptop, I don’t like lugging that big thing around. I took my keyboard and ipad with me to Palm Springs last weekend and it worked great for me while we were on the go.

Notebook // While I did type my notes, I always havea notebook with me just in case. I love this little padfolio that I got from Target..in fact I have them in multiple colors and use them for a variety of reasons. The front of it is a clipboard and when you open it up, there’s a legal sized notepad on one side and a folder on the other. This was perfect for holding handouts and business cards I accumulated during the day.

Emergency Kit // Since I’m the girl that needs to be prepared for any type of situaton, I had my mini emergency kit wth me. Tide stick, hand santizer, nail clippers..I’m prepared for anything!

Water Bottle // One thing I have with me anywhere I go is a water bottle. This small Nalgene is my go-to travel water botte. Small enough to easily fit into my bag and it won’t spill.

Wallet // A self-explanatory one. Needed my id, credit cards an some cash!

Reusable Shopping Bag // I brought this along n cse we got any big swag that wouldn’t fit into my bag.

Kleenex/mints //Absolute neccessities so you don’t have bad breath and in case you have a sniffly nose. Or in my case, since I spill a lot, kleenex can act as a good paper towel!

Cell charger + portable cell charger // When you are at a conference that focuses on blogging and social meda, you will definitely be using your hashtags and posting all day long. It’s always a smart idea to carry your charger and a battery backup just in case.

Buisness Cards // Since I was going to be netwoking and meeting new people, I had plenty of business cards to pass out. I love this little wallet I picked up frm Target to carry them in.

Proein Bar // Because nobody lies being around someone who is hangry.

DSLR // Since I’m trying to becom a better photographer, I take my DSLR with me anywhere I get the chance so I can practice.

Rue La La :: Handbag 411

I have always been a girl on the go. As a kid I was constantly going from school to practices to games and that lifestyle hasn’t changed now that I’m an adult. These days my schedule involves work, meetings and dinners after work then traveling on the weekend with my husband. With such a hectic lifestyle, I really need a purse that can adapt to any situation.

When I was in high school I adored purses so much that I actually matched my handbag to my outfit each day. While I had a closet full of different colored purses, my taste has changed a little bit since my teenager days. These days I opt for a purse that is classic and timeless, goes with any casual or dressy outfit and is large enough to hold the endless amount of things I carry with me.

Rue La La :: Handbag 411

I always opt for either a tote or satchel type of bag. My current handbag is the Tory Burch Robinson Tote. I got it last year for Christmas and I haven’t switched to another handbag since. I love a good leather bag because I know it will be able to stand the wear and tear I put on it. Another quality I like in my handbag is that it’s in a neutral color. Black is my go to color and when you have a neutral handbag it goes with any outfit you put on. The last, and most important, thing a handbag needs for me is to have multiple compartments. I’m pretty much like a modern day Mary Poppins when I pull items out of my purse. Having different areas that I can organized my necessities into helps keep my large bag a bit less like a bottomless pit.

So what does a girl on the go carry in her purse? Well, anything and everything but the kitchen sink! Since I’m the kind of girl that likes to be prepared for emergencies, I carry with me what I consider to be “the essentials” even if I don’t put a lot of these items to use very often.

  • The “just in case” kit :: The essentials I carry with me in case there’s a mini emergency. I often carry multiple different lip colors, you know in case my mood changes throughout the day. I also can’t live without a nail file, Vaseline, hair ties, Advil, Tums, Oil blotting papers, lotion and some cough drop. Oh, and don’t forget my sparkly mirror compact that I use to make sure I don’t have salad stuck in my teeth after lunch. Other essentials include lotion for my dry, winter chapped hands, Kleenex, hairbrush and my work id. (I am such a sucker for a cute makeup bag. I love the Orla Kiely line at Target!)
  • Sunnies and glasses :: I love nothing better than putting on my sunglasses on a bright day. And my glasses go with my anywhere since I can’t see very far without them.
  • Winter gear :: Since it’s cold in the Midwest, I always carry a pair of ear muffs with me because you never know when the temperature may drop to below zero.
  • Mints + Hand sanitizer :: Aren’t these items just a given in every girls’ purse?
  • Business Cards :: Because you never know when you’ll need to hand one out.
  • Pens :: Not one, but 3 pens. You’re bound to use this more than you know. Guilty confession..I always have a hotel pen in my purse too. Ever see that Friends episode where Ross takes all of the freebies from the hotel room? Yep, that’s me. I have quite the collection of hotel pens from around the world.
  • Wallet :: My hot pink Kate Spade wallet makes me smile every time I take it out. I love having it in a bright color because I never have a problem finding it. And all of those pesky store reward cards and gift cards? They’re stored in my small card case just in the instance I don’t want to carry them with me, they’re easy to pull out and leave at home.

I also carry with my my iPhone wherever I go and my iPad comes with me most places because I never know when I might want to pull out a magazine or book to read.

QUESTION // What essentials do you carry in your handbag?

How To Pack A Carry-On Suitcase

If you know me well, then you know that I am the queen of overpacking. I’m a firm believer that you need to have options while you’re away from home. What if you change your mind and want to wear a dress instead of pants and a blouse?

When it comes to packing, I’m known for bringing at least 2 outfits to wear per day, plus extra clothes “just in case.” I bring tons of shoes and more makeup products than I’ll ever wear. I’m that girl that sits on her suitcase to get it close shut. The end result is that I come home and unpack a lot of unworn clothes and makeup that I hardly ever touched while away.

A few months ago when my husband and I were talking about packing for our vacation to Italy, I mentioned how we would each check a suitcase. He laughed hysterically at me and told me no, he wasn’t going to drag my peacock paisley suitcase across cobblestone streets while juggling my leopard neck pillow and colorful Vera Bradley tote bags. Set in panic mode for me. What?! I have to pack for a week and half in just a carry-on?

For months I have looked at TONS of pins on Pinterest and watched endless hours of Youtube videos trying to figure out how I would accomplish this task. It wasn’t until a couple of months ago that my husband admitted that he was joking about each of us just using a carry-on (I’m quite gullible so I often believe anything he tells me.) He said we could check one large suitcase as it might make the trip easier knowing we could put our dirty laundry in that bag along with anything else we buy on the trip.

While I wanted to give in and just check a bag to have extra room, I said no. Since we are traveling to a few different cities via train and staying in different hotels, lugging around another suitcase was just going to be too much. So I made it my mission to fit EVERYTHING into my one carry-on suitcase. And somehow, someway I actually accomplished it!

What’s in my carry on bag?

Since I’m leaving on a jet plane for Italy soon, packing my carry on bag has been one of the items on my to-do list. I’ve always been an antsy traveler that can’t sit still so packing a bag that has enough things in it to occupy me for more than 12 hours of traveling is a big task! For this vacation, I’m only taking a carry on bag and a carry on suitcase for all 11 days. YES, this is quite the challenge for the overpacked that I am. Because of this, I needed to allow some room in my carry on tote bag so I can put some of the goodies I know I’ll pick up shopping there! Here’s a peek into what I’m taking into my carry one bag and I’m also showing you my all-time FAVORITE bag that I take with me every time I fly.

What’s In My Travel Toiletry Bag?

As a girl, I know it takes a lot of things to get ready in the morning. Pair that along with the fact that I pack everything and anything I might need in case of an emergency and you have a TON of stuff that I need to bring with me! Luckily, I’ve paired my travel toiletry bag down to the essentials, plus a few extra items just in case!

My Travel Walking Pharmacy

If you’ve watched any of my previous videos, then you know that I’m the kind of girl that likes to ALWAYS be prepared. Whether it’s toting my Bridal Emergency Kit  with me as I fulfill my bridesmaid duties or carrying anything and everything inside my purse, I always have the essentials for those little emergencies that pop up. If my husband spills on himself, I’ve got my Tide stick to clean it right up. If I get a cranky hungry moment, I have a granola bar to make me happy again. If you have a mini emergency, then chances are I have something in one of my many Mary Poppins-ish bags to help you out.

In a few weeks my husband and I will be jetting off to Italy for 11 days. This is our first time heading to Europe and I’ve already started packing for this vacation. Well, actually I started about 3 months ago! One thing that always gets me a little worried when we go out of town is what if I get sick while we’re there? Have no fear, I’ve put together a travel walking pharmacy kit to take care of any minor medical mishaps that occur while we’re away. This is a great little bag to put together with essentials you may need for a headache, cut, upset tummy, or an oncoming feeling of the flu or a cold.

A walking pharmacy is really easy to put together. All you need is a small cosmetic bag and you can put in as much or little medicine as you think you might need. I tend to go overboard so that’s why I have a lot of essentials in my bag. All of these items you can purchase at a drugstore or Target in their travel aisle. Or, maybe you have a mini pharmacy in your own home that you can grab from.

This is a really essential bag that I keep put together not only for travel, but I keep inside my work bag too. I can’t tell you how many times I forgot to take my allergy medicine and this bag has saved the day. It’s a great little bag that you can keep in lots of places from your car to a diaper bag or to just have around for your next road trip!

What’s in my gym bag?

Working out is something I have a love/hate relationship with. Let’s be real, there are just some days I would rather not workout and would prefer to take a nap instead. But I know that if I get myself to the gym, even on days I don’t want to, almost every time I feel so much better about myself for going and breaking a sweat.

Despite having those days of not really wanting to work out, 99% of the time I do want to go to the gym. Working out is my “me” time. It’s 30 minutes to an hour that I have by myself. Sometimes it’s my escape from a bad day or it serves as my time to catch up on reading while on the treadmill. Whatever it is, I really do enjoy breaking a sweat because I know it’s keeping me healthy and in shape.

Since I workout 6 days a week, I have a gym bag packed at all times with any essentials I may need while at the gym. So, let’s dig in and see what’s inside my gym bag!
