Busy Little Bee!

That’s been me lately! I just moved into my new house after nearly 5 months of living out of boxes…let’s just say that HGTV does not make moving/getting a new house look as easy as it is on tv!

In addition to that, I’ve been super busy with work as well as my part time job with the pageant which I just started traveling for on the weekends. Needless to say, I am counting down the days till I have a free day off!

So, I apologize for not writing as much! Between unpacking and traveling and work, I’m trying to find a balance between work and relaxation! I think I’ve finally found it thought..

Until next time…

Happy St Patty’s Day

Happy Leprechaun day!!!
I hate to be a grinch on this holiday, and hate to admit it, but St. Patrick’s day is one of my three least favorite holidays! Not sure why I’m not a fan of this holiday (nor Halloween or New Year’s Eve). I could attribute it to the fact that I dislike, and am deathly afraid, of anything in costume. My favorite holidays are Thanksgiving, Christmas and 4th of July because they’re family oriented (and have really good food for each!) But, I still got festive and wore green to celebrate the holiday!

Training

Running a marathon has always been on my bucket list. It just seems like one of those monumental things to do in life.
But I have to face the reality that I’m not a big fan of running..not to mention I’m almost positive there’s no way I can run for 26 miles.
This past weekend I was reading in Fitness magazine about the Disney Princess Half marathon. Being a pageant girl, anything involving a crown or the word princess really fascinates me. After researching it a bit more, this seemed like something I’d want to cross of my bucket list. If I can’t handle 26 miles, a half marathon doesn’t seem so bad. Not to mention, if contestants on the Biggest Loser can run a marathon, then a fitness fanatic like myself could surely handle a half marathon.
So…it’s official. One of my best friends and pageants besties, Tristan, and I have decided to do it together and be each other’s long distance training buddies for the next year (she lives in Arizona). I figure if I’m going to run a half marathon, it may as well be a memorable one so why not do it at the happiest place on earth!
I’ve got a whole year to train and I couldn’t be more excited. I’ll be blogging here and there about it throughout the year. I know it’ll be tough but it’s a once in a lifetime thing to do…and I’m glad I’ll have my bestie with me!

A Wisconsinite takes on Omaha….

I’ve lived in Omaha almost two years and there are still some sayings and things I don’t understand. While I do live in Nebraska, I’ll always be a Wisconsin girl at heart and some things will never change for me…

For instance, it took me almost two years to realize that in Omaha, every restaurant does not have fish fries on every Friday, not just during Lent. A big letdown for this Wisconsin girl..however, I have found some local restaurants that have “fish and chips” on their menu so that’ll have to do for now.

Some other observations from this out of towner…

An ATM will always be a tyme machine to me.
A Shirley Temple (Sprite with cherry) is a kiddie cocktail.
Water fountains are bubblers.
A bag is not called a sack.
Lake Zorinsky looks like a big giant pond to me, not a lake.
Culver’s will never take the place of real custard in my heart.
I really miss having professional sports in Omaha..while we have good college teams, there’s still something about a pro baseball or basketball game.
Omahans and Milwaukeeans always freak out in snow, even if it is only a few inches.
The city of Omaha really needs to learn how to plow…it’s a bit unacceptable for my street to not be plowed three days after it snows.
Getting to downtown Omaha in less than 20 minutes is a nice luxury.
AND checking in at the airport, and going through security in Omaha in under 10 minutes is another luxury.

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood

Today it actually felt like spring outside…minus the melting snow and dead grass. The sun was shining and it was a high up in the 40s! Definitely felt like a heat wave.

I’ve really missed having nice weather. When it is fairly decent outside, I love taking Gia on a walk. It’s great being outside and her little legs enjoy the exercise too. But I’m not a fan of when her white fur gets all dirty. I was convinced if we walked away from the melting snow that she’d stay clean. Boy was I ever wrong..

Before we left…

And when we got home, look at what we had a date with…

Gia absolutely HATES getting into the sink to get a bath. I swear she’s yelling at me in her little head when I get her wet. But, at least we’re dirt free and smell daisy fresh now!

I am here to pump…you up!

This morning, for the first time ever with me, the bf came to work out with me. I couldn’t believe he wanted to actually work out with me.

He did pretty well this morning for his first time ever. He’s never lifted weights before-only played sports and ran a lot in college. But, what can I say…he had a pretty good trainer-me!

He’s finally agreed to join the same gym as me so we’ll have some more adventures along the way. I’ll let you know how it goes!

SORRY!

Sorry for my lack of posts lately :(

It’s been a hectic week since I last wrote…

I went home for the weekend and the past few days have been house hunting after work….

Tomorrow is friday and I promise there will be an update!

Wednesday’s Beauty Pick

I have a slight addiction to makeup…I’m a self-proclaimed beauty junkie. This comes as being a little bit odd to me because I haven’t always been into makeup. When I was in high school, I never wore makeup. In college, maybe I’d consider it once in awhile. I’m not quite sure why I always disliked it. I think it might have had to due with the way it made my face feel.

It wasn’t within the past two years that I really discovered the right products that help to enhance my natural beauty. Although I wasn’t a fan of makeup growing up, I did learn a thing or two about makeup and makeup application from my dance and pageant days. Since I think I have finally perfected my beauty routine, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite products. It’ll be a weekly post and here’s the first!

Bare Minerals Matte Foundation

Bare Minerals was a foundation I began using when it first came onto the scene. I had the woman at Sephora show me how to apply it and I was mesmerized by the way it looked and of course bought it. But like many products, it came home and sat in my bathroom drawer….and sat…and sat.. Every once in awhile, I’d try it again, but I never had the same results and didn’t like the look I produced.

So recently I decided I wanted to switch foundations. My face was starting to break out from my current foundation, not to mention, I wasn’t happy with the way my face felt after putting it on so I decided to give Bare Minerals one more try.

On Sunday, I made a trip to Ulta and picked up Bare Minerals matte. According to the packaging, it was going to do what I needed it to do (even out my skin tone) but not leaving it looking oily). I was a bit skeptical since my previous Bare Minerals foundation made my face look a bit cakey and oily HOWEVER, this one did the opposite. It evens out my complexion beautifully and feels as if I have nothing on.

At about $28, this is my new pick for everyday foundation. Makes you look completely natural and it stays all day..

3…2….1….lift off!

I like to consider myself an expert traveler. Ok….I’m not an expert, but with how much traveling I do, I’ve definitely learned about how to pack and what to pack. I fly at least once a month and almost every weekend from March until Labor day I’m on the road traveling with my part time job with the pageant. Being gone this much means I don’t have the time to unpack everyday necessities, so I’ve learned to buy two of all my essentials: a regular size and travel edition.

Here are some of my best tips that I hope will help you the next time you travel….

PACKING

Packing is something you either dread or you enjoy. I particularly enjoy it because I am always excited to go out of town. However, in this day and age where airlines charge you an arm and a leg for luggage, we all have to be a bit stricter on ourselves with what we pack. For me, that means one less pair of shoes….or three ;) No lie, one of the times I get the most nervous is when I do check my bag and they have to weigh it!! I’m always over the limit, but a nice smile always gets me off the hook (teehee!)

Since many people are opting these days to forgo checked luggage and prefer carryon, I suggest getting fun luggage. Plain black or a bold red color just aren’t as much fun as a print can be. My pick comes from Vera Bradley, the rolling duffle (NOTE: From here on out, you’ll be hearing a lot more about Vera Bradley from me. I have quite the obsession with it!)

The 22″ is perfect as a carry-on. It’s the perfect size for a weekend getaway, not to mention, how adorable is the print!? I’d beware and NOT ever check such adorable luggage. I know from experience with the way that airlines handle bags, the first time you check it that it’ll be ruined in some way or form.

If you do opt to check your luggage and are looking for a good duffle carry-on, I suggest the Weekender from Vera.

You can hold the handles, sling it on your shoulder or use the long shoulder strap. It’s a great size to fit your purse, magazines, books, computer, ipod etc. There’s also 4 pockets on the inside, two on the outside and an outside zippered pocket. As my mom always says, pockets make it easy for you to stow your plane ticket and id so you never lose it. You know the saying….mom is ALWAYS right!

When you do pack, I suggest you put your shoes on the bottom, along with any hair tools so that you clothes rest on top of them when you roll your luggage. Otherwise, the heavy items will weigh down and wrinkle your clothes.

And one last thing…..jewelry packing. I have found the absolute, best thing to pack your jewelry in. And of course, it’s Vera! It’s the jewelry book.

This is perfect for traveling because a) it’s thing b) it has clear, zippered pockets in all different sizes so you have all of your jewelry organized in one place. No more untangling necklaces and trying to match up earrings.

Toiletries
Like I said earlier, get two of everything. It doesn’t matter if you travel a lot, or rarely, but it’ll make your life A LOT easier. I have all of my travel toiletries in a clear, plastic makeup bag all ready to go. This way, before I leave, I can check to see if I need to re-stock anything.

The toiletry essentials include…

-toothbrush
-toothpaste
-shampoo
-conditioner
-razor
-shaving gel
-brush
-lotion
-moisturizer
-face wash

Extra toiletries I pack…

-aspirin
-Static guard
-Febreze
-Downy wrinkle release
-hairspray
-hair ties
-Tide to go stick

Makeup

If anyone is as much of a beauty junkie as me, I know you want to bring ALL of your makeup along, just like myself. But again less is more.

Recently, I’ve found two great travel makeup items that have EVERYTHING you need.

The first is from Bobbi Brown, my makeup of choice. This item is only available from QVC and has all foundation items you need in a small compact. It has corrector, concealer, foundation, and powder. It’s great for travel or to keep in your purse for touch-ups.

The other item is from Toofaced and is the Glamour 2 Go. It has multiple eyeshadow colors, a blush and four lip colors to choose from. Again, in a small compact that won’t take up too much room.

These are just some of the basics….expect more to come at a later date!

Will you accept this rose?

I’ll be the first one to admit that each night I have the same ritual…come home, make dinner, put my comfies on, and make sure all my cleaning etc is done so I can snuggle in bed with my dog and watch my reality tv shows. Yes, I’m that girl.

The Bachelor has always been one of my favorites to watch. I mean, who doesn’t like to fantasize and wish that they could go on such romantic dates? But while I’m living in hopa-hopa-land wishing and hoping my bf will whisk me away in a helicopter to dinner on a beach, I’ll live vicariously through the show.

While Jake is nearing the dating stage and hoping to put a ring on it soon, I just had to give my two cents on the final girls. I must say, when Ali left last week, I was a bit heartbroken. I really though she and Jake had it going on.

I just knew Gia was going to leave this week. Lovely woman, but, I could see what Jake was saying, she was a bit slower to show her feelings for him. Totally understandable for putting her guard up, I sure as heck would too. But, in the game of love (literally) you have to wear your heart on your sleeve.

Now that Ali is gone, I adore Tenley. She’s that sweet girl next door that everyone loves. Not to mention, I think she and Jake would make some cute babies. I’m not sure what he sees in Vienna. She seems a bit immature and I can’t see her as a wife.

If Jake chooese Tenley, I predict it’ll be a homerun and they’ll live that happily ever after. If Jake choose Vienna, I think it’ll end up like previous Bachelor Matt Grant who proposed to Shayne Lamas, and then again we’ll have (yet another) failed season of The Bachelor…but until then, I’ll still keep on watching!
